Ray Cronin
Thorny Lea Golf Club

Ray has been leading high technology companies for more than 30 years and specializes in building teams and navigating early startup phases. In 2009, Ray and Russ Conde founded Club Benchmarking allowing private clubs to instantly assess their financial and operational performance. Club Benchmarking is on a mission is to develop healthier clubs, more empowered managers and more strategic boards by elevating fact over opinion.

Ray is known in the club industry for his high-energy presentations and his thick Boston accent and has gained a reputation as a top-rated speaker for club manager, controller and board education. He co-authors the Club Managers Association of America's Finance & Operations, Compensation & Benefits, Policies & Procedures and Economic Impact Reports.

Ray is President of Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, MA. He holds a BSEE from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Harvard Business School. An avid golfer and the proud father of two daughters Ray lives in North Easton, MA with his wife Claire.

Steve Cummings
Harvard Club

Mr. Cummings, a New Hampshire native, is a 1983 graduate of the University Of New Hampshire with a Bachelors of Science in Hotel Administration. Steve began his career with the Dunfey Hotel Corporation as a management trainee at the Parker House and Dunfey Hyannis Resort.

Steve’s venture into the private club business started at Winchester Country Club where he assumed the duties as Assistant Manager. Following Winchester, Steve was the manager of Oak Tree Country Club in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania and he then returned to Winchester Country Club to assume the duties of Club Manager. Steve then accepted the position of General Manager at the Andover Country Club in Andover, Massachusetts and a year and a half later, started a twenty four year career at Brae Burn Country Club located in Newton, Massachusetts in 1988.

Steve joined the Harvard Club of Boston in December of 2012. He has been member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association for over 10 years and enjoys guest lecturing at his alma matta, Boston University, The University of Massachusetts, and Mass Bay Community College.

An avid golfer and cook, Steve resides with his family in Marshfield, Massachusetts.

David Frem
Cyprian Keyes Golf Club

David Frem graduated from Dartmouth College magna cum laude with a computer science major. He joined a small technology education company after graduation, but left after 2 years to form his own IT consulting company. His clients included large corporations such as John Deere, United HealthCare, and Kohl’s Department Stores.

In 1997, he joined his family in developing Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, and his first decision was to create the hardware, software, and telephone infrastructure for the club. Once Cyprian Keyes opened in August of 1997, he oversaw the sales and marketing for the next three years before becoming General Manager. As General Manager, he is responsible for all aspects of the club, which includes two golf courses (an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole par-3 course), golf shop and custom club fitting center, golf school, full-service restaurant, and an event venue with five distinct function rooms.

Dave has been on the board of the New England Golf Course Owners Association (NEGCOA) for over ten years and been President of the NEGCOA Board since 2010. Dave lives with his family in Boylston, MA.

Kristen LaCount
The Country Club

Kristen LaCount has been with TCC since 1996, where she started on the banquet staff. She attended Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts and Bachelor of Science Degree in Foodservice Management. After spending most of her college years as part of different kitchen teams, Kristen took a new step, expressing interest in management. Upon graduation, Kristen became an Assistant Manager. She has continued to work at TCC in many capacities, including one year as the Communications Director. Kristen became a Certified Club Manager in 2009. She has since been promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2012. Kristen currently holds a position of President for the New England Club Managers Association Board, she is a member of National Committee’s for the Club Managers Association of America, and serves as a representative of clubs for the Newbury College Hospitality Advisory Board. Kristen has taught classes as a guest professor and panelist at Boston University, the University of New Hampshire, UMASS Amherst, Newbury College, as well as CMAA's National Conference Student Educational Sessions. Kristen was featured in Boardroom Magazine as one of the "Prominent & Influential Women in the Private Club Industry" in 2014.

David Mazur
Kernwood Country Club

David has an extensive background in all phases of club management, including membership surveys; financial management and strategic planning, membership marketing, management & staff recruitment, training and motivation; and operational analysis. Through his vast experience and knowledge he continues to research club trends and development.

Jesse Menachem

Jesse Menachem, who previously served as the Massachusetts Golf Association’s Director of Rules & Competitions, became the seventh MGA Executive Director in October of 2013.

Originally from Framingham, MA, Jesse was a Francis Ouimet Scholar who attended Indiana University from 2004-2008. He was initially hired as the MGA’s USGA PJ Boatwright, Jr. Intern in 2005 and continued in that role for three consecutive summer terms. Upon graduating from IU, Jesse became a full-time member of the MGA staff as the Manager of Championships & Member Services. From 2008-2013, Menachem managed and oversaw the MGA’s Championship Department which consists of 12 Championships, 40+ Qualifying events and a volunteer core of over 100 rules officials.

Jesse resides in Needham, MA, with his wife Stephanie and their son Jordan.

Bill Shaw

As Worcester Country Club General Manager/COO (2014 to present), Bill was selected from a national search conducted by, Bill’s extensive experiences of over 35 years in Executive Management includes; Executive Chef at private clubs (1978-1989) before turning pro and earning his PGA accreditation in 1992. Bill held Head Golf Professional positions at Bear’s Paw Country Club in Naples, FL (1992-1996) and New Haven Country Club in Hamden, CT. (1996-2008) Bill coupled his Executive Chef, Golf Professional and Chief Operating Officer experience in being selected for the prestigious position as Director of Golf, Club Manager at La Quinta Resort, PGA WEST, a Hilton Waldorf Astoria property in La Quinta, CA.(2009-20013) There he also experienced being associated with one of the finest golf instructional schools in the industry also holding the position as Lead Master instructor for Jim McLean Golf Schools. As an established industry leader, Bill Shaw brings expertise in the areas of quality service standards, culinary management, team development, value-added Member satisfaction with a proven record of success in resort and private golf services.

Andy Wiles
First Republic Bank

Andrew Wiles is an Account Executive at First Republic Bank providing private banking, lending and wealth management services to individuals and business.

Prior to joining First Republic Bank in 2013, Mr. Wiles was the Director of Branch Development at Investors Capital Holdings where he successfully increased the number of profitable financial advisor offices in the Mid-Atlantic region. In addition to branch development Andrew also focused on the creating and development of investment advisor relationships across the U.S. Mr. Wiles has over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry while developing relationships across banking, investment management and insurance sectors.

Mr. Wiles earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management from Endicott College in 2005.
